Station 27 was dispatched to a possible
structure fire at 224 Berks St . A/C D. A. Grube was command. The
owner told command that he was stripping paint from around the
front door using a heat gun, and now he notices smoke in the dwelling.
A thermal imaging camera was used to check for extension into
the house and the temperature of the wood around the front door.
Everything was looking normal until one fire fighter noticed
smoke coming out of a roof vent. Command requested a dispatch for
a possible working structure fire. Station 23 was added to the
dispatch for automatic mutual aid.
Because of limited access to the attic area the crew from 2721
cut a vent hole in the roof. The crew from 2311 removed the wood
from around the front door. Once the wood was removed it was determined
the fire had extended the height of the front door on the inside
wall. PPV was used to ventilate the dwelling. All units were released
at 1518 hours.
