August 8, 2008 - 2307 hours - Automatic Fire Alarm with Fire

Station 27 was dispatched to 2400 Northampton St. (George Weston Bakery) for a water flow alarm. Fire Commissioner D.A. Grube had 27 Command and requested the first in apparatus on location (2721) to circle the building on the east side. As 2721 made their 360 the crew noticed smoke coming from a garage and a large amount of water running under the garage doors.

After making entry into the garage area it was learned that a sprinkler head was activated.
After further investigation it was learned that a large air compressor had malfunctioned, caught fire, and was extinguished by the sprinkler system. The maintenance staff secured the electric and water service, and the sprinkler company was contacted for service.

All units were clear at 0110 HRS.
