Station
#27 was dispatched to a severe accident on Rt. #33 Southbound. While
units were responding, there were four or five updates. Callers
on location reported one vehicle ran into the back of a tractor
trailer. The next up-date added that the vehicle was on fire. PSP
on location requested a fly from a medical helicopter.
#2752
(A/C S. LaBar) was first on location, with #2751 (Chief T. Pursel)
close behind. Fire units on location were #2711, #2712, #2741, #2742,
and #2744.
#2752
confirmed heavy entrapment. One victim trapped from the waist down,
in a passenger car. After cribbing the car, the "A" posts
were cut at the top, and relief cuts were made at the base of the
"A" posts. Hydraulic rams were then used to push the dash
away from the victim. Extrication time was 13 minutes.
Penn-Star
landed on the roadway on the southbound lanes.
After
further investigation, it was determined the passenger car drove
under a garbage truck carrying a large dumpster. All units were
cleared after one hour.
