October 21, 2003 - 1251 to 1329 hours - Motor vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment

Station #27 was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident near the 25th Street Shopping Center.  While enroute, #2753 was updated by NC 911 that more calls had been received, reporting 4 victims entrapped.  #2753 was first on scene and confirmed the entrapment.  Two adults in the front seats and 2 small children in the rear (both in child safety seats).  Heavy damage was reported to the drivers' side of the vehicle.  #2742 arrived, with #2741 close behind.  Both vehicles were secured and cribbed.

The driver side rear door was worked on first because of the injuries to the child in the rear seat on that side.  Extrication time on victim #1 was 11 minutes.  While that was happening, it was discovered that the passenger front door was only locked, and not jammed shut.  The victim in the front passenger seat and the victim in the rear passenger seat were not injured.  Once the first victim was extricated, the drivers' door was worked on next.  The driver was removed with assistance from the FD and PD in about 10 minutes.
