June 28, 2004 - 0357 hours - Business Structure Fire
 

At 0357 hrs. Station 27 was dispatched to a structure fire on William Penn Highway . A Palmer P.D. unit on patrol a few miles away reported heavy smoke coming from the area.

Chief T. Pursel (2751 was on location in seven minutes reporting a working structure fire at the Friendly’s Restaurant at 3069 William Penn Highway . While enroute 2751 requested Station 14 (Nancy Run) for 1421 (Tower/Ladder) and a full response from Station 23 ( West Easton ).

Upon arrival 2721 was set up to ventilate the roof. A crew of six was sent to the front doors to force entry and start an interior attack. This crew only got about ten feet inside the building when they noticed the ceiling tile were starting to deform, and they could hear the plates starting to pop off of the trusses in the roof.

Command ordered all personal out of the building. Units operating then went to a defensive mode. The fire was under control at 0515 hrs. All mutual aid departments were released from the scene at 0600 hrs.
