April 13, 2003 - 0512 hours - Large structure fire at the Village at Stones Crossing
 

Station #27 was dispatched to a structure fire with smoke and flames showing at The Village at Stones Crossing on William Penn Highway.  Upon arrival, #2751 reported a 100' x 100', 2-story structure, had heavy fire showing from the 1st floor windows in the front of the building.  Mutual Aide units from Station #14, 17 and 23 were dispatched for a full response by Command (#2751).  #2721 was placed on Side A with #1421 operating on Side B.  Water supply was established from three hydrants in the area.  #2713 layed 800' of 5" to a hydrant on South Nulton Ave. (north of the fire).  #1413 was ordered to pump that line.  The line fed #2711 and #2721.  #2311 layed 800' of 5" to a hydrant on William Penn Highway and Edamy Street.  This line went into #1421.  The 3rd line, a 4" line, was layed by #2712 to a hydrant on Stones Crossing Rd.  #2311 pumped this line, which supplied the deck gun on #2312.  Multiple hand lines were also in operation on the fire and exposures.  A total of 60 Firefighters, using 10 pieces of equipment, fought the fire for approximately 3 1/2 hours.  The fire was placed under control at 06:30.  Other agencies assisting with the call were EMS 27, EMS 25 and EMS 52.  Station #25 was on stand-by at Station 1 and Station #28 was at Station 2.  Palmer P.D. and Palmer Public Works took care of blocking off the streets in the area.  The fire is under investigation.  Estimates of damage were at about $1 million dollars.  A 4 man crew on stand- by at Station 1 was called for 4 rekindles throughout the early hours of April 14th.
