P.M.F.D. was alerted for an automatic fire alarm at 2190 Gateway Terrace, Building A. As Fire Commissioner Grube (2751) approached the entrance of the complex he found a section of a utility pole and high tension wires hanging very low.
As Gateway Terrace Command was being established a second fire call was being dispatched for a pole and wires down with a small brush fire on Haymont Dr. The two calls were related to each other. Due to the high winds (60 MPH) two poles snapped on Haymont Dr. causing the tension on the third pole at Gateway Terrace to snap that pole.
Met-Ed was notified, the Township Public Works Department put barricades across the entrance, and all occupants were told that they could not drive out of the driveway, but they could walk out to Haymont Dr. using a walking path.
Power was restored in the area approximately seven hours later.
