December 22, 2007 - 1849 hours - Dwelling Fire

Shortly after cleaning and putting all equipment and apparatus back in service the P.M.F.D. was dispatched to a dwelling fire at 1560 VanBuren Rd. Updates from NC-911 reported heavy smoke and embers coming from the chimney. Lt. C. Miller, first fire unit on location reported that the dwelling was an old farm house that was approximately 1000’ off of VanBuren Rd. The only access was a narrow dirt lane.

The first arriving unit (2713) was instructed to ladder the roof and extinguish the active fire in the wood burning stove. The crew from 2721 and 2742 assisted the crew from 2713. Because of the limited access and large trees in the front yard 2721 was staged on VanBuren road.
With limited access to the main roof and the attic area around the chimney units operated an extended time to make sure there was no extension to the roof. All fire units were clear at 2040 HRS.

Lt. C. Miller had #27 Command and Capt. K. Sobieski had Operations.
