Station #27 was dispatched for a building fire on Fehr St. (behind the City Diner at 25th St. and Freemansburg Ave. While Palmer P.D., P.M.F.D. and EMS #27 were responding NC E-911 gave an up date that they were receiving calls of a tree and vehicle on fire.

Fire Commissioner D.A. Grube (#2751) was first on location and took Command. He quickly confirmed the up dates. Station #23 was requested by #2751 while responding. #2311 was the first arriving fire apparatus with a crew of five. The engine crew stretched a 150’ 13/4” preconnect. #2711 arrived on location and hooked a line into #2311 to transfer their water. The fire was under control at 1820 HRS.

The cause of the fire was someone burning cardboard in a barrel. Embers blew out of the barrel, catching a large pine tree on fire, setting miscellaneous items on fire that were being stored in the body of a truck and damaged overhead electric lines that ran in front of the business.

A small area of homes and businesses were without power until Met-Ed could make the necessary repairs. All fire and EMS units were cleared at 1909 HRS.
